Kokondo Association
Our Dojo, and our instructors are all certified and trained through the IKA.
Established in 1959 by Shihan Paul Arel, our system's history is intertwined in Connecticut and the U.S. Marine Corps.
Within the IKA are the two sister arts, Jukido Jujitsu and Kokondo Karate. Both developed by Shihan, the two self sustaining systems have the same principles of Kuzushi, Shorinji, and Jushin. While separately, Karate has a larger focus on blocks and strikes, and Jukido on throws, and containments.

As we are a member of the IKA, (International Kokondo Association) the dojos practice the art of Jukido Jujitsu. The two dojos in Windsor Locks and Granby, CT are very tightly integrated. Both led by Sensei Andrew Bean, provides an opportunity to the students to build relationships with each other, as well as keeping a uniform path towards education.

Windsor Locks
Granby YMCA
The original dojo of Riverside Jukido, classes here opened in the early 2000s under Sensei Scavato. After several years of teaching, the class was turned over to Sensei Bursiewicz. (Pictured Below) Throughout his long tenure as a Jukido Jujitsu Sensei, Mr. Bursiewicz ran events, taught many students, all while being a champion father and husband. In 2026, the dojo and it's students were turned over to Sensei Bean. Under Mr. Bean's leadership, the dojo exploded into the 21st century launching social media platforms, and this website.
The oldest dojo in the Riverside Jukido family, this dojo was started before the turn of the century by Shihan Paul Arel. At the time the dojo was in Simsbury at the old YMCA, and when the Y moved to the new location, the dojo stayed with it's loyal host. When Shihan retired from teaching back in 2008, Sensei Webster (see below) took over the dojo to continue the tradition. This was also the time that Sensei Bean started his training at the age of 7. Mr. Webster led as many as 5 dojos at a time, with hundreds of students and many Black Belts achieved their rank under him, including Mr. Bean in 2017. In 2025, Mr. Webster passed the dojo along to Mr. Bean.
