I have been involved in Jukido since the age of seven, starting as a White Belt in Jujitsu. I worked my way through each rank by adapting the skills and dedication I learned about the 7 Codes of Bushido. I began my training under Sensei Webster at the Granby YMCA and Manchester dojos. I also started attending classes in Windsor Locks in 2016 with Sensei Bursiewicz. I am proud to have earned my position as an instructor in both of the dojos that taught me as a young child.
I earned the rank of Probationary Shodan in 2017 and Shodan (Black Belt) in 2018. In 2019, I started attending Tolland under Sensei Sise to further expand what I had truly just begun to learn. In addition to these amazing teachers, I gained experience from other Black Belts and instructors from across the IKA, even though I do not attend their regular class— including Mr. Condos, Mr. Thibedeau, and Master Phelps. Throughout all my training, Kaicho has seen me grow from a White Belt to where I am now as a Nidan, Second Degree Black Belt in Jukido Jujitsu.
Before I started in martial arts, I entered the Cub Scouts at the age of six. I continued to the Boy Scouts where I earned over Fifty merit badges. Then, at the age of fifteen, I proudly reached the rank of Eagle Scout. I also earned the Pope Pius Award, the highest religious honor in Boy Scouts. After High School, I graduated from Lincoln Tech. I made the Dean's List and was inducted into the National Technical Honors Society, a testament to both my hard work and academic excellence. I started work as an Electrical Apprentice in 2020, improving my skills and gaining valuable firsthand experience. In 2023, I successfully passed the Journeyman Exam, marking a significant milestone in my professional journey.
But throughout all this, what is not common knowledge, is that I was significantly bullied as a child. Including one instance where my head was slammed into a chair, then the floor. My history with bullying, in addition to several of the high-ranking members of our system, is why I have such a strong anti-bullying stance today. I was already in Jukido at the time that I started to be bullied, I had treated class as just a game. But once the bullying hit a turning point, I took class more serious. This is a lesson I hope to pass on to all my students, before they have the same negative experience.
